It is the shortest shipping channel between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, linking major economies such as Middle East, China, Japan, and South Korea.
West Malaysia
If you scroll down from the top west coast of the Peninsula, you will be hitting the first honey port of Malaysia - Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea some 30km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia with loads of heritage and inheritances. In 2007, Langkawi island was given a World Geopark status by UNESCO.
There are two main island areas: the Southern Islands, with a heavier tourist population, and the islands to the northeast which are more secluded with little tourist traffic. Langun Island has a fresh-water lake called Pregnant Maiden Lake and has a Sand Spit Beach on its south-facing orientation. Dendang Island next to it forms a bay used by Langkawi sailing yacht tour operators.

East Malaysia also known as Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan or Malaysian Borneo. Her exact location is on the Borneo island, the world's third largest island, sharing with her 2 neighbouring countries, Brunei and Indonesia. She has some of the greatest diving sites on top part of the island.
Kota Kinabalu is named after Mount Kinabalu, which is situated about 50 kilometres east-northeast of the city. You need to obtain a summit-climbing permit only to climbers who stay at mountain huts. Due to the limited number of beds at the mountain huts, only 130 persons are allowed to climb Mount Kinabalu per day. Kota Kinabalu is often known as KK both in Malaysia and internationally. It is a major tourist destination and a gateway for travellers visiting Sabah and Borneo.
Below is Bohey Dulang Island that formed by the remnants of an extinct volcano. The crater now is flooded with seawater creating a spectacular, breathtaking lagoon which is 25m deep.
Sipadan/Mabul
These 2 islands both located in the Celebes Sea off the east coast of Sabah. It was formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct volcanic cone that took thousands of years to develop. More than 400 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this ecosystem. Sipadan Island was at the top of Rodale's Scuba Diving Magazine Gold List for 'The Top Dive Destination in the World'. In fact it shared its top spot with 2 other destinations known for the diversity of their marine life — the Galapagos Islands and Truk in Micronesia.
